Ambulance Shorepower Pedestal

The concept originated as an offshoot of pilot project Simply Grid was running with the NYC Mayor’s office to electrify food carts (see video below circa 2013).

We found out that the Fire Dept of NY which was looking for a curbside shorepower solution after upgrading some of their ambulances with shorepower inputs. They had hundreds of ambulances idling ~14 hrs a day at street corners all around the city. The problem was cord management… Drivers would not be able to get out of the ambulance, unplug it, and stow the cord. The cord would need to fall out up the turn of the key in the ignition and somehow be taken care of as the ambulance sped away. I initially came up with 3 designs (see original crude drawings below)
